The problems of monitoring and assessing the state of the agricultural sector as an integral part of food security of the country are considered. Along with other countries, Ukraine is one of the world's leading food security countries. Grain production is one of the leading industries in the agricultural sector. Ukraine is one of the largest exporters of grain and pulses in the world. The structure of sown areas in Ukraine by types of crops is analyzed, and the main problems in connection with active hostilities in certain regions are identified.

An analysis of performed field and theoretical research on the subject of socio-economic and urban development of the Ukrainian countryside in the XXI century is represented. and related transformations of settlement areas and rural farmstead. The socio-economic preconditions for the emergence and functioning of each type of village and farmstead are presented. 5 main types of rural settlements and estates are distinguished by dominant functional features on the basis of 2 components: rural-landscape and agricultural profile of the villagers:

The article describes the main prerequisites for the sustainable development of the Ukrainian economy, based on statistical data analysis. Firstly, the authors examine three dimensions of sustainable development (according to the TBL approach) based on official macroeconomic indicators. Secondly, the authors offer to consider three areas of the national economy as the main potential for sustainable development of the national economy. Based on it, the authors elaborate recommendations for boosting most attractive areas and harmonizing all aspects of sustainable development.
